Petrina Garbarini is a Cape Cod, MA based artist who has been passionate about art since an early age and expresses herself as an artist. Her art education began in childhood and continued through academic coursework, classes and workshops, and experimentation. A degree in Architecture from Penn State University and a long career in the construction industry and at Harvard University has afforded Petrina a satisfying professional life where the creative ideas of others are realized in built form.Though Petrina works full-time and was a working mother, she has always prioritized artmaking as a mode of relaxation and expression. She has received awards at juried shows and has sold art on commission. Petrina lives on a quiet street near Osterville village and claims two alpacas as neighbors.
Much of Petrina’s art is rooted in the narrative elements and structural forms created in her professional life; she takes those forms to new dimensions, sometimes fanciful ones. Since 2016, Petrina has experimented with mixed media collage, a departure from the techniques learned throughout her life and the rigidity of those processes. Her mother passed away that year and Petrina spent the ensuing months inwardly focused and devoted to her art. She experienced a welcomed evolution as an artist and a release of her reliance on precision. Architectural references, linear elements, and found material continue to play a role in Petrina’s art as she celebrates color, shape and pattern.
